..I work with Autistic children and rarely do I find a product that helps unlock the emotional door. I have found Onionhead® to be the most endearing character who all the children in my program respond to extremely well. They participate in the activities, while learning to understand and communicate their feelings. ... I love Onionhead®! I met the founders of Onionhead® and Company several years ago at an Autism Conference. I loved it so much that I purchased one of every thing they had at the time and immediately started using the products. My students love Onionhead® and respond to him in such a positive way. I have the magnets on my filing cabinet, cards at the ready, and a poster on the office door. I incorporate Onionhead® in classroom lessons, group and individual sessions. Often the students will initiate using Onionhead®. Recently one of my students with high functioning autism looked at the Onionhead poster and said "Frustrated. . . that's me at recess." We had a great discussion regarding his frustration on the playground with the other students and positive ways to handle the challenges and to feel calm instead of frustrated. Another success was a fifth grader who was having an emotional meltdown in the classroom. The student was able to come to my room and verbalize how he felt picked on by every one at school and he was able to verbalize situations that happened that day as well as in the past. I asked him how he wanted to feel. The student looked at the magnet board and responded "Victorious." He was able to come up with ways to feel and act in a victorious manner. We printed out a card with "victorious" written on it to take with him. He kept that card taped to his desk for the entire year. The teacher was very pleased how in a very short period of time the student's day was transformed and he had a powerful word/feeling he could use through out the school year.

In addition to using Onionhead® professionally I use it personally at home to help with decoding feelings, and fostering great discussions. My husband and I recently had to make some big decisions and we went through the Onionhead® feelings deck and talked about each feeling we had surrounding the decision. We separated the cards in three categories: feelings that I felt about the situation, feelings he felt and then the feelings we shared. It was an extremely effective exercise as we were able to discuss all of our emotions and then in a loving manner come up with a decision that felt good to both of us. I highly recommend Onionhead® for every one! I have yet to find a tool that is this effective, in this many ways, for such a diverse range of people. Thank you Onionhead®! Lisa Usher Layton, M.S. ...I officially showed my autistic son, Logan the Onionhead® cards yesterday and we played for hours. We did the memory game with them, making the faces for each positive feeling in alphabetical order. HE LOVED IT! I gave him the cards which he was so happy about. He used the cards to tell me about how he felt about a few things that happened during the day and he was so excited to play all the games! As soon as he woke up today he grabbed them and started playing with his brother, Troy. I was really amazed at how much he enjoyed them and he has already booked me for after work to play with his feelings cards again. I love watching them make the cute Onionhead® faces! ...I used my Onionhead® cards in session today with a very guarded young lady whose comment to everything is "I don't know." I asked her to sort through the cards and pick out any that applied to her.
